Trust and Music City Supporters join forces to Light the Night

Last Friday on a cool, crisp evening under a bright, starry sky thousands of multicolored lights danced around Nissan stadium and the streets of Nashville. On this evening, people from all over Nashville gathered to declare their determination to fight against the dual scourges of Leukemia and Lymphoma as part of Light the Night Nashville.

The evening kicked off with music and food in the stadium parking lot, and soon the lot was bursting at the seams. The massive crowd was vetted by host Charles Esten of “Nashville” fame, who poured his heart out regarding his own daughter’s battle and victory against Leukemia. Many other survivor stories were told in addition to heart-wrenching tales of ongoing struggles and remembrances of battles lost.

Joining this army of warriors were members of the Nashville Soccer Supporters Trust and the Music City Supporters. They carried the banner for the soccer community. Other soccer supporters contributed richly from their pockets and prayers, including members of The Assembly and independent fans.

Trust Board Member Angie Haddock coordinated the soccer community’s response, which gathered over $1,000 in donations.  “This cause is personal to me, as I lost a friend to Leukemia about 7 years ago,” says Haddock.  “In addition, NSC sponsored teams for this event in 2017 and 2018 – so it’s a great way to make an impact, and continue a tradition that so many of us fans were already familiar with.”

In addition to the donations gathered, the Trust had a drawing among the participating supporter groups, and gave a $500 donation to the winner’s charity of choice. Music City Supporters drew the lucky straw and, consistent with their focus on children, chose to contribute to both the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt.

All in all the night was a smashing success. Not only from a financial perspective, but also for building up the spirits of all of those who have been touched in some way by these insidious afflictions.

The Trust wants to thank all the soccer supporters for their contributions toward this worthy cause. Once again our soccer family showed that they are all about loving and supporting our neighbors. After all, it is Our Town, Our Club and Our Community.
