Pearl Cohn High School gets ready for soccer season

While the popularity of soccer in Nashville grows every day, like a flower it still needs nurturing to flourish. With so many demands on resources, many high schools have difficulty funding all the worthy programs that help our children blossom into the outstanding men and women inherent within their souls. As such, high school sports programs often have to seek assistance and funding from other sources.

That’s where dedicated souls like Shawn Choquette and Mary Clark come in.

When Pearl Cohn High School’s soccer program lost their coach, these two selfless teachers stepped up and volunteered to fill the breach. Fortunately, they both bring a strong background that will aid them in this endeavor – Mary played soccer in high school, while Shawn is a former college player with Georgia State. Unfortunately, the many demands on an inter-city magnet school do not allow for much financial assistance to a soccer program. As such, the new coaches found themselves in desperate need for the essentials to run a soccer program.

This is where the Nashville Soccer Supporters Trust stepped in. Brian Cordova, who is a member of Nashville Soccer Club’s Back Line and is volunteering his time to be the Pearl Cohn’s trainer, knew of The Trust’s mission and reached out to see if The Trust could help. After talking with the coaches and seeing their profound desire to give their players a program they could be proud of, The Trust was happy to lend a hand. As a result, The Trust agreed to provide balls, pennies, training cones, shin guards, and team warm-up jackets.

Shawn stated that she was thrilled The Trust was willing to help. But it is really Shawn and Mary who are making the real positive impact that will resonate throughout the lives of these young students. The Trust is grateful to be given the opportunity to assist in our own small way.
