Tornado Recovery Efforts for Wilson United Soccer

Several days ago, a cowardly, ravenous beast roared across Nashville, wreaking terrible destruction wherever it went. With morning light, the devastation became evident, and as the day went on the true loss in human souls was tallied. The cost was huge but the character of Nashville could not be broken. Like a flower growing through cracked pavement, Nashville’s neighbors rose up to clear the damage and start healing the injured.

Neighbors helping neighbors.

One of the places struck was the Wilson United Soccer League facility. This league serves over 1000 children, and their spring season was just about to start when the tornados struck. As a result, they lost almost all their goals and benches, and suffered structure damages throughout the site. But, like the rest of Nashville, people of all ages – including members of our soccer family (TSSA, NSC, several recognized supporters groups, and The Trust) – showed up to begin securing the buildings and clearing the site of trees, broken goals, and fencing. Even more amazing is that, after hours of work doing what they could to render the facility safe, these selfless souls did not go home to take a well-deserved shower but instead hiked over to nearby homes to help neighbors pick up the pieces of their lives.

At this moment, Wilson United is not sure how they are going to recover. The total estimated cost to replace the equipment and repair the structures is approximately $40,000. The Trust will contribute to help financially; however it will take many more of us to provide the total assistance needed for this league of volunteers to rebuild.

As such, The Trust is reaching out to the soccer community to encourage supporters to provide some assistance to our soccer family in need.

Wilson United will be setting up an electronic donation capability for anyone who wishes to help. Keep an eye out on their Facebook page for more information.
